Events : The Townsite Heritage Society organizes many fundraisers and fun events for the community to participate in the promotion and conservation of our beautiful Historic District! See the list below.

Paint Up Campaign

The Annual Paint-Up campaign is one of many activities the Townsite Heritage Society coordinates to promote pride of ownership and beautification of our Historic Townsite. A fresh coat of paint is a wonderful way for homeowners to showcase their heritage architecture. A carefully planned exterior paint scheme will further accentuate heritage features and really bring out the character of the home. Residents can nominate themselves or a neighbour for the package of up to 20 gallons of SICO Exterior Paint at no cost—donated by SICO Paints and RONA Powell River, our most generous and long-term corporate partner. This campaign usually takes place in the Spring.

Home and Garden Awards

The Home and Garden Awards were started by the Powell River Company in 1921-22. The Heritage Society has kept the tradition going thus, throughout the summer, our Home and Garden Awards Committee keeps an eye out for the best looking Gardens in the Townsite as well as Heritage Homes that have undergone restoration and deserve merit. If you are a Townsite Homeowner and are interested, keep an eye out for the Spring Digester; a list of the different categories and the description can be found there.

Tea and Tarot Fundraiser

Usually held in January, we invite the community to come enjoy tea and have their cards read. All the the proceeds go towards the conservation of Henderson House.

Blackberry Express Fundraiser

Every August, Powell River hosts the Blackberry Festival. Here the Townsite Heritage Society has a booth at the street party on Marine Avenue and for the whole afternoon and evening until the fireworks, we serve our delicious shortcake with blackberry sauce and whipped cream!
